Unity Church Worldwide has as its spiritual head an ordained Unity minister, Dr. Catherine Ponder, who has served as a minister in Unity Churches since 1956.  She was ordained by Lowell Fillmore, the son of Unity's founders.  Her inspirational books have been published by Prentice-Hall, Parker, Unity, and DeVorss & Co., are widely read in this country and abroad.

She has lectured widely in churches of Unity and Religious Science for business, professional, and convention groups, and has appeared on numerous television talk shows from coast to coast.  She is a member of the International Platform Association and holds an honorary lifetime membership in the Spiritual Frontiers Fellowship.  She is listed in Who's Who in Religion and Who's Who in the World.  She was awarded a Doctor of Divinity degree by the Association of Unity Churches in 1976.   In 1990 they awarded her their prestigious "Light of God Expressing" Award.  She was also awarded the Dr. Joseph Murphy Humanitarian Award at the International New Thought Convention in 1990.  In 2000 her awards included: Living Legends, the William Hornaday Humanitarian Award, Prosperity Teacher of the 20th Century, the World Who's Who Hall of Fame, and listing in the 2000 Outstanding Citizens of the 20th Century.  In private life she has been listed in the Palm Springs-Palm Desert Social Register among "the distinguished citizens of the desert."
